THE OPTIMAL APPROACH TO
RESPIRATORY SYNCYTIAL VIRUS

Since the discovery of the Respiratory Syncitial Virus (RSV) in 1956, data have shown that it is the main cause of respiratory infections requiring hospitalization among infants, mainly due to pneumonia and bronchiolitis.

In  Spain, it has been estimated that RSV infections cause between 15,000 and 20,000 pediatric emergency visits each year and 7,000 to 14,000 hopitalizations *. The number of children who die from infections caused by this virus is between 70 and 250 per year *.

In this regard, and taking into account the parameters of frecuency, lethality, cost and speed of expansion indicated by the World Health Organization (WHO), RSV could be considered a public health problem.

At LEVIN we have promoted this project in order to identify and analyze the optimal approach to respiratory syncytial virus.

Its development has resulted in a detailed report that identifies the challenges and areas for improvement that will help us face the challenge posed by this pathology for the National Health System, health professionals and patients who suffer from it.
